In the knowledge economy era, human capital has become the source of the enterprise competitive advantage, and the value creation, resource allocation and competitive advantage have depends on the knowledge carrier:the knowledge worker. However, with the fast rising of employees’turnover rate, how to keep in the knowledge worker and make them to maximize the value of themselves effectively in order to create good work performance for enterprises has become an important research proposition.In the measurement of the personal engagement degree, the study selects the UWES scale, developed by the American scholar Schaufeli, and revised by Chinese scholars in Chinese cultural background; In the measurement of work performance, the study selected seven task performance measurement projects from Borman&Medowidlo (1997) and Befort&HantruP (2003) scale, and10surrounding performance measure projects from VanScotter&Motowidlo (1996) scale suitable for knowledge workers. And the confirmatory factor analysis shows that the scale have good reliability and validity. Through questionnaire surveys, the writer recovered159pieces of valid questionnaires, and got the following conclusion by statistical analysis:1. At present, overall level of engagement degree of the knowledge workers is in general level in the enterprises in China.2. Different demography variables, especially sexes, working unit properties and positions, have different cognitions to the engagement degree of the knowledge workers.3. Correlation analysis shows that there is a positive correlation between every dimension of engagement degree and work performance of the knowledge workers.4. Regression analysis shows the engagement degree has positive forward prediction effect to the work performance of the knowledge workers.The main contents of this thesis are as follows:Firstly, the article systematically reviews the research papers on knowledge worker’ engagement degree and work performance as well as the relations between them. Secondly, in the method of questionnaire and the mathematical statistics, the thesis develops empirical research on the general situation of the knowledge worker’ engagement and the relationship between the engagement degree and work performance. Thirdly, combining the empirical research conclusions, the thesis puts forward corresponding policy to enhance the knowledge workers’professional degrees in order to improve the work performance. At last, the thesis summarizes the limitations of this research and point out the future research direction.Compared to the previous research, the main innovations of this paper are as follows:1. To be different, from the personal perspective, this study discusses the relationship between the engagement degree and the work performance of the knowledge workers, and previous research always conducted the relationship research from the organizational angle.2. The research object is the knowledge worker group, different from previous research categories, such as civil servants, teachers, state-owned and private enterprises’employees.3. Based on the empirical conclusions, the study put forward strategies to improve the engagement degree of the knowledge workers, in order to improve the performance level and finally realize the ascension of the organizational performance.
