Patent is part of scientific and technological output. The quantity and quality of a patent are two important indexes which indicate the level of innovation of a country or an area. In the past30years, scholars at home and abroad used indexes relating to a patent for deeper analysis and research on technical progress and innovation. For above, I collect abundant data relating to patent authorized by the United States, with which I will do research on factors of grants for China’s patent authorized by the United States, using time series global principal component analysis method and stepwise regression analysis. The result indicates that it is the quantity of exports of industrial products which influence the grants for China’s patent authorized by the United States most. The income from foreign royalties and license fees follows. Others are R&D internal expenditure, digestion and absorption expenditure and the number of internet users, respectively. Of these factors, R&D internal expenditure and digestion and absorption expenditure have negative influence on it. Given these, this paper proposes that we should consider both the growth pattern of foreign trade which has transformed from exporting more primary products to industrial products and the internal structure of industrial products. Meanwhile, we should encourage companies to apply for more patents abroad. And I conclude my paper by providing some recommendations to optimize the model.
