Using landscape ecology and GIS spatial analysis methods, this paper studies the distribution and landscape pattern changes of rural residential area in Dehua county. It analyzes natural factors, including elevation, slope, aspect and distance to rivers, and location factors, such as distance to cultivated land, garden plot, traffic line and towns. It also analyzes socio-economic factors with principle component analysis methods. Baesd on these, it explores consolidation mode of rural residential area which is suitable to the local development. The result shows that:(1)In Dehua county, rural residential area scatteres throughout the whole county, from2000to2009, numbers of shape and complex degree of patches increased, while relatively distance between patches decreased. Rural residential area has many problems, like structure function confusion, low land utilization ratio;(2)Natural factors are geographical background on the effects of rural residential distribution and evolution, while location and socio-economic factors influence the evolution and development, and this influence become more and more obvious, especially distance to traffic line and towns, economic development and agricultural population;(3)Based on feasibility analysis, this paper proposes four land consolidation modes:migration mode, internal reconstruction, relocation and combination mode and urbanization mode. At the end, this paper puts forward some relevant strategies to the difficulties which may encounters during the concrete implement process.
