The product is one of the many important factors that affect the strategic decisions of the supply chain. Fisher first proposed it in1997, according to product type to locate development in harmony with the supply chain type. Past research focused on supply chain systems qualitative analysis, but as a system, the supply chain is difficult to describe quantitatively. At present, the overall study method of supply chain management approach after another. This paper based on the decision-making theory, and from the systematic quantitative view studied the supply chain strategic decision-making, the research results are as follows:Firstly, reviewed the recent supply chain coordination in the field of research and recent progress, and results of these studies were reviewed and the development of the area was prospected.Secondly, this paper tested the performance of two supply chain systems which include MTS (make-to-stock) system and MTO (make-to-order) system on two-stage supply chain with one manufacturer and one retailer. The two supply chain systems were modeled by System Dynamics respectively. Results of simulation show that the inventory of MTO supply chain system is lower than MTS supply chain system, though the retailer of MTS supply chain has a lower inventory than the retailer of MTO supply chain. MTO supply chain system’s performance in response to customer needs is better than MTS supply chain system, but the equipment utilization is lower than MTS supply chain system.Thirdly, this paper analyzed the effects of the demand characteristics of product life cycle on supply chain selection. According to the dissimilarity of each procedure, supply chain systems are divided into push supply chain, pull supply chain and hybrid supply chain. The three supply chain systems are all modeled by System Dynamics. Demand functions of product life cycle are inputted to the three systems to simulate the systems. Results of the simulation show that it is suitable to choose pull supply chain when products are in introduction stage, when products are in mature stage selecting push supply chain is suitable and when products are in growth stage or decline stage hybrid supply chain will be the best choice.
