Employee help-seeking is defined as an interpersonal process involving the solicitation of theemotional or instrumental assistance of a work-based colleague (i.e., peer, supervisor or subordinate) tomanage some problem either at or outside of work.The purposes of this dissertation were to investigate the content structure of employee help-seekingbehaviors as well as to study the antecedents of employee help-seeking behaviors in China. For thesepurposes, we used some standard research methods, such as literature review, personal interview andquestionnaire survey. In addition, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, descriptives,structural equation modeling, correlation analysis and hierarchical regression analysis were also applied fordate analysis. The main conclusions are as the following:Firstly, the content structure of employee help-seeking behaviors consisted of four factors, whichincluded benefit help-seeking, task help-seeking, norm help-seeking, life help-seeking. The reliability andvalidity of employee help-seeking behaviors questionnaire were highly enough.Secondly, the research discussed the demographical variable’s effects on employee help-seekingbehaviors. The demographical variable included sex, age, educational background, job position, serviceyear, the type of organization. We found that the demographical variable had some significant effects onsome dimensions of employee help-seeking behaviors.Thirdly, the research discussed the relationship between each dimension of employee help-seekingbehaviors and its antecedent. It was discovered that perceived organizational support was positivelycorrelated with benefit help-seeking, task help-seeking, norm help-seeking, life help-seeking. Fourthly, the research discussed the moderate effects of proactive personality by hierarchicalregression analysis. We found that proactive personality was only moderate the relationship betweenperceived organizational support and norm help-seeking.Current limitations and future research orientation were also discussed at the end of the dissertation.
