As the advancement of worldwide urbanization, industrialization process, the problem ofresources, environment and ecological continue to appear, the sustainable development ofhuman society suffered a huge threat. As the field in which nature and human social exchangesare the most frequent and most obvious, land use / cover change were greatly concerned by theinternational academic community. In the joint efforts of many scholars, study on land use /cover change has become a front topic of global change research, and has become a publicfocus. The contents of land use / cover change research is very complex, involving the widerange of disciplines. Currently, multiple disciplines, including physical geography, humangeography, ecology and other subjects launched an intensive study from different angles anddifferent methods for land use / cover change, and achieved some positive results. Especially inrecent 20 years, along with the rapid development and innovation of the research methods inGIS, RS and GPS technology, land use / cover change research has achieved many significantadvances in data access, integration, processing and analysis. In addition, the researchperspective was no longer confined to the analysis of historical change and actual state,gradually extending into the future, focus on the simulation and prediction of future scenarios.Municipal districts of Jinan city is the most obvious region of Ji’nan city in the cityurbanization, which land use types is rich and land use change is intense, so the paper choose itas the research area. With the support of ArcGIS Desktop platform and the land use data, thestudy carried out the following work:In the support of spatial analysis function of ArcGIS Desktop, the paper analyzed the landuse structure, land use spatial distribution characteristics and types of land use conversionmechanism. Analyzing from the result, Ji’nan city land use change show obvious difference indifferent periods and different regions.Landscape index analysis method is introduced, calculating and analyzing NP, PD, MPS,FRAC, AI, CONTIG, SHDI, DI in landscape level and landscape class level. The results indicatethat the landscape of the study area showing the overall trend of fragmentation, indicating agrowing sense of the impact of human activities on land utilization.On the basis of the analysisof temporal and spatial change of land use and evolution of landscape pattern, this paperexpounds the research of land use change rule, and discusses the driving force of land use changein different periods and different regions. To explore future land use scenarios of the study area, this paper rely on space simulationand prediction function of IDRISI, under the restriction of planning, policy and slope, simulatedthe Ji’nan City land use scenarios of 2020 year, and analyzed the simulation results. According tothe study area’s actual situation of land utilization, and puts forward the correspondingcountermeasures for the future land sustainable utilization. The modeling studies suggest that theCA-Markov model can consider the nature, planning, economic and other factors, to correcte thedefects of Markov model in the space simulation, and to achieve a more accurate numberprediction and reasonable space simulation.Finally, this paper summarized the main results and shortcomings in the study, andprospected the development direction of this research field.
