Since the reform and opening-up, the tourism industry, as an importanteconomic sector of foreign exchange earnings, entered a new stage of all-rounddevelopment. And the tourism industry has been established as an industry in China.In 1979, the first Tourism College - Shanghai Tourism College formally establishedand began its enrollment, which marks the birth of China’s higher education oftourism. China’s higher education of tourism has been rapidly developed in the past30 years. With China’s accession to the World Trade Organization, the successfulhold of Beijing Olympic Games and Shanghai World Expo, the status of the tourismindustry has been rapidly increased; the tourism also makes a greater demand fortalent, but also of a higher requirement for higher education of China’s tourism.Although China’s tourism education develops rapidly as a whole, there is still abig gap with the developed countries due to late start. It has shown a certain lag inthe subject position, curriculum development, and school-enterprise cooperation, etc.In this paper, the author aims to analyze the problems of China’s tourism educationand sum up the reconstruction of higher education of China’s tourism programthrough literature research method, case study method and survey method and otherresearch methods, combined with comparative analysis of China and foreign highereducation on tourism.This paper is divided into four parts:The first part is introductory. Based on the analysis of background research, theauthor describes the research of theoretical and practical significance and theresearch methods, and tourism related concepts for higher education are defined.The second part is the history of China’s tourism development of highereducation and analysis. The author reviews the development of four parts of China’stourism education course, conducts the questionnaire towards relevant tourismenterprises, some travel and tourism institutions of higher learning institutions ofhigher education students, makes in-depth analysis of China’s tourism education inthe training objectives, subject positioning, curriculum, teaching staff, teaching materials and school-enterprise cooperation.The third part is the development and enlightenment of foreign higher educationon tourism. The author gets the enlightenment on the aspects of school-enterprisecooperation in running schools, training students in professionalism, the importanceof the government on tourism education through the analysis of national tourismdevelopment and reform of higher education performance United States, Switzerlandand Australia. It provides for China’s tourism development and reform of highereducation with experience and lessons.The fourth part of China’s tourism education reform ideas and suggestions.Based on the reflection of China’s tourism development problems in Part two andreference of the research results abroad in the third part, the author puts forwardChina’s tourism education should adjust the training objectives, cultivating talents;establish the academicstatus, standardized disciplinary system; improve the curriculum, coursestructure adjustment; optimize the structure of teachers, improve teaching quality;optimize the material structure, deepening reform and school-enterprise to promotethe sharing of talent, perfect base construction, etc. Therefore, actually complete thereconstruction of higher education in China’s tourism.
