In recent years, China’s tourism industry has rapidly developed. Joining WTO,holding the Beijing Olympic Games,as well as the faster growing of China’seconomy provides new opportunities and challenges to the development of tourism.Driven by economic globalization, tourism industry made cross border, cross domain,cross industry and trans-department integration and the development trends of thiscombination become increasingly clear.Due to the expanding of the tourism industryscale and changing of the mass tourism, the quantity and quality of employees requirehigher needs. On the contrary of the desperate of industry, little tourism managementstudents chose the career. Tourism management students refuse to work in tourismindustry, yet also hard to enter in other fields. Lacking of employability is the mainreason for those who hardly had a job, and that’s because the deviation betweenhigher education model of tourism and student employment requirements. Theultimate goal of education is to make educated professional knowledge and skills tobetter access to related industries, create value, realize the value and contribute tosociety. Tourism higher education needs to be adjusted, according to the employmentneeds of students, in order to improve students’ employability and employment ratesin the industry.As this background, the paper bases on theory of the interaction between tourismhigher education and student employment, making a detailed statement of the currentsituation of China’s tourism education model and the employment status and problemsof tourism management students. Through the method of questionnaire survey whichhas five parts of current model of tourism education including professional knowledge,training objectives, curriculum, teaching methods and teachers to analysis andsummarizes the lack of student employment demand and given recommendations ontourism higher education optimization. Finally, summarizes the main points of thearticle and inadequacies.
