Abstract/Summary:
As a state-owned enterprise, survey office has continuously advanced the reforming policy for various human affairs in the past years, therefore, the issue about workers’job satisfaction was proposed on the agenda. Workers’real experience feelings and needs can be concluded by investigations of job satisfaction questionnaire, which helps discover the problems in the management, and provides the first-hand information for personnel management and reforming. This research took 305 workers as the sample from 5 different municipal survey departments in Sichuan Province. Factors regarding workers’ job satisfaction in survey departments were examined and analyzed in this empirical study in order to propose some effective measures for improving the management and job satisfaction by demonstrating the theoretical reference and the analysis about the current situation in survey departments.Workers from five major cities in Sichuan Province, namely, Chengdu, Mianyang, Meishan, Ganzi and Suining, participated in this interview and questionnaire survey. Dimensions influencing workers’job satisfaction in survey office were verified by taking factors’analysis. The result explained that there were six dimensions in this research, i.e., work itself, leaders’management, salary and welfare, organization itself, opportunities for promotion, and co-workers. Worker’job satisfaction were evaluated by adding the scores for the six dimensions to the score for the general job satisfaction.This study took individual information (including gender, age, service time, education) as variables to discuss the workers’job satisfaction in survey office, as well as the bivariate analysis for the dimensions and general job satisfaction. The main results were as following:First, the level for workers’ job satisfaction in survey office was comparatively high. They were most satisfied with the co-workers’ relationship, least with recognition for leaders. Second, there was significant difference between male workers and female in work itself, opportunities for promotion and salary & welfare. Females had higher job satisfaction than males on these dimensions.6-10 years’service time displayed the highest job satisfaction. Education played role in job satisfaction, the workers with a master’s degree or higher degree had a higher job satisfaction than others, however, the workers with a bachelor’s degree had the lowest job satisfaction. There was slightly significant influence between different ages of workers.Thirdly, there were significant interaction effects between demographic variables and dimensions of work itself, opportunities for promotion, and salary and welfare.Finally, workers’satifaction on work itself, opportunities for promotion, and salary and welfare, will significantly influence workers’ general job satisfaction.Based on the results of this study, some management proposals were mentioned in order to improve the workers’ job satisfaction in survey offices.
