With the increment of the user demand and the development of the communication and network technologies, network convergence has become a trend of the future network technology while the multi-net gateway is a key element to realize the connection of diverse networks. To realize the internetworking of heterogeneous networks, it is needed for a muli-net gateway to have different communication interfaces and the capabilities to complete high-speed data processing and switching. The Intel third generation Network Processor could meet those requirements with its flexible and high-speed processing capability for network data, and plentiful communication interfaces. Since the multicast can increase the utilization of the network bandwidth and realiable multicast can guarantee the delivery of the multicast packets, the reserch on realiable multicast in the muli-net gateway could make a great sense.Based on the project entitled as the research on the key technologies of the multi-net gateway and its prototype, this dissertation firstly intruduces the progress and status of the relevant researches all over the world, the basic principles of the communication interfaces within the gateway, and the hardware and the software platform of the multi-net gateway.Secondly, on the basis of the former works of the study group, the dissertation lays emphasis upon the software implementation of the communication interfaces within the gateway. The detailed discussion is on the sofeware implementation of the interfaces including SDH, E1, V.35 and UART, and the design of the prototype management sofeware. Besides, the debugging of these communication interfaces is performed. Finally, this paper studies the active realiable multicast. Based on the protocols analysis of the Active reliable multicast (ARM), the active FEC recovery (AFR) and the Dynamic Active Reliable Multicast (DAFR), a military reliable multicast protocol is proposed, which can suit the military applications, and its sofeware design in muli-net gateway is implemented.
