With the development of network technologies and all kinds of new applications, IP services which grow quickly and continually are becoming the dominant services in next generation networks. However, SDH technique supporting for traditional TDM services and data services is playing a very important role in existing networks. Therefore, the 2-layer networks such as IP/SDH, IP/WDM, SDH/WDM, and the 3-layer of IP/SDH/WDM will coexist in the coming period, the whole network will appear as the layered structure. Researching on how to make joint routing and resource optimization feasible in multilayer optical networks including various switching/ cross-connecting schemes has very important academic significance and application value.Sponsored by the technology fund project named“Key Techniques and Software Implementation of Large-scale Layered-network & Resource Jointed Programming”from HuaWei Technologies Co. Ltd, this dissertation summarizes the related techniques of architectures in multilayer optical networks, joint routing & resource optimization and Path Computation Element (PCE). According to actuality and future development trend of transport networks, this dissertation uses a novel 3-layer network model, studies three issues for joint routing & resource optimization, including the initial routing of Integrated Routing Algorithm for Multilayer Network (IRAMN), strategies of selecting node pairs and tabu search. The emphasis of this dissertation has been placed on an improved algorithm in 3-layer optical networks, named Joint Routing and Resource Optimization Algorithm (JRROA), mainly including the algorithm principle of the proposed JRROA, design & implementation of its performance simulation software, performance evaluation results and analysis. The work made in this dissertation provides a good technical pre-basis for developing joint routing and resource optimization algorithm in multilayer optical networks of our country. Finally, the summary of whole dissertation is given and the issues to be studied further are also presented.
