The research of wide band high frequency (WBHF) channel is the basis of designing large capacity WBHF communication systems. However the existing traditional HF channels are mainly focused on the study of narrowband data transmission, which has not satisfied the requirements of high speed WBHF data transmission. In addition, until now there has not been a universal accepted WBHF channel model, therefore it is easy to see the complexity of WBHF channel.According to the developing course in HF channel, a study has been made of the transport and channel characteristic, particular attention is paid to the multi-path effect and the fading phenomenon. Then a summary of current modeling methods is given based on the most recent research on WBHF communication systems, with a comparison of each method in the applied area and the existent problems. In this paper, we choose the ITS model as our main analysis object. The stochastic modulate function is the key part in the ITS model, to realize which, we design a simulation model that is based on an efficient approximation of filtered white Gaussian noise processes by finite sums of properly weighted sinusoids, and we use the mean square error (MSE) method to produce proper model parameters. Furthermore, concerning the problem of channel modeling and evaluating, the reason of adopting fieldwork scattering function picture as modeling rule is discussed, and simulation is done in three typical conditions. Meanwhile, the fading statistic characteristic is given. Finally, we compare the simulation results with other channel models in OFDM systems, and construct the related plots, which provide great theory help to the designing and modeling in high speed WBHF communication systems.
