With the development of wireless sensor network technology, The applications of it in the areas of military and civilian become increasingly widespread. In these applications, people need a data terminal to receive and process all field data, so as to achieve the goals of environmental monitoring and industrial management. The traditional PC is unable to meet the growing demands of data terminal because of its large size. This thesis combines the project "warning system of blasting operations and civilian explosives management", Researching and designing a data terminal based on ARM has the advantages like portable, powerful and so on. Data will be sent to it by ZigBee technology, and staff can get them from a touch-screen LCD. In the same time, the data terminal provides remote monitoring in explosives warehouse management.This thesis focus on the design of embedded data terminal, discusses the selection of hardware and software platforms in a embedded system, ZigBee, and Ethernet technology. The research includes the data terminal hardware design, embedded Linux operating system transplantation, U-Boot transplantation and the design and implementation of network communication program in Linux.Firstly, the thesis introduces the development status and trends of the data terminal, and briefly describes ZigBee, Embedded and Ethernet technology. Then Be aimed at the needs in blasting site and warehouse management, a solution of data terminal based on ARM is given. In hardware, this thesis design and implement the peripheral circuit to meet the needs of data terminal based on Tiny6410what produced by Friendly ARM. In software, this thesis accomplish the tasks of modifying and transplanting U-Boot, embedded Linux kernel, file system and DM9000chip driver. In the same time, a network communication program in embedded Linux system is designed and implemented.In the last part, a functional test of the data terminal is given. The results show that the terminal basically achieve the desired functionalities to verified the feasibility of the data terminal design.
