Since the surface plasma oscillation phenomenon is discovered at the beginning of the twentieth Century, the researching on surface plasmon resonance has been becoming more and more widely. It is a non-radiation electromagnetic wave caused in the metal and dielectric surface, which is an kind of Electron density movement. Optical fiber surface plasmon resonance sensor is a new sensor, which connects optical fiber technology and plasma resonance technique. Because of the convenient, direct and high detection of signal sensitivity, the optical fiber surface plasmon resonance sensor is becoming more and more important. This paper is divided into two parts:the first part states the surface plasmon resonance refractive index sensor by the theory form, the other part states the tapered fiber liquid refractive index sensor in the form of experiment and the result of the measurement of different NaCl solution. The main work is as follows:1This paper have given an outline of the history, research background and problems of the optical fiber surface plasmon resonance sensor. And the principle of surface plasmon resonance and the structure of the main surface plasmon resonance sensor is introduced in detail.2The main performance parameters of surface plasmon resonance is analyzed by MATLAB; the on-line transmission surface plasmon resonance sensor is designed by using Comsol Multiphsics; the resonance angle and wavelength is analyzed;and then the relation of the different refractive index liquor and the light intensity is given in this model.3The conical evanescent field fiber optic sensor is set up;refractive index of different concentrations of NaCl solution were measured, which verifies the validity and high sensitivity of the sensor.
