With the dramatic growth of the business capacity of the communication network, the rapid development of the communication industry brings about the innovation of the business bearing and transmission technology again. The rigid pipe of traditional SDH/MSTP platform is no longer able to meet the needs of the high-speed and large-bandwidth new business, the introduction of Packet Transport Network (PTN) makes the metropolitan transport network improve easily. The PTN technology based on packet switching kernel has efficient end-end OAM capabilities, reliable viability, and high-precision synchronization timing characteristics. It can be well adapted to needs of high-bandwidth transport bearer to become the new IP multi-service transport network. In the paper, an in-depth study of PTN is taken first and then QoS and protection switching technology in PTN are researched.Facing the demands of high bandwidth and low latency in the LTE bearer program, traditional QoS guarantee techniques need to adapt to the adjustments made in the packet transport network in order to adapt the new network. Business delay is an important indicator of the QoS mechanism, QoS packet scheduling algorithms can achieve a delay of the different types of business protection. Researched on the classic queue algorithm in PTN, we select the priority queue scheduling algorithm as the object. To solve the unfairness of the traditional algorithms, this paper proposes a new queue scheduling algorithm based on the average statistical delay of queue packets, by the introduction of the consideration of the increased delay due to the differences of the size of packets for each queue packet dynamic scheduling, so as to achieve the optimization of the entire network in a time-sensitive business.The PTN technology based on packet switching kernel makes traditional metropolitan area network become the connection-oriented, end-to-end carrier-class transport network, in which PTN QoS mechanisms is an important issue of continuing concern. In the paper, it introduces the QoS requirements of the access services and the business model of metropolitan transport networks and has the research on the QoS mechanisms of two hop transport technologies-PTN and IP-RAN based on various business, and then we propose the bandwidth planning and advice of the QoS mechanism in the context of LTE based on the above theoretical analysis.The efficient protection switching performance of the PTN transmission technology is an important feature in PTN. The wrapping protection of the existing network in the practical application is selected to be main object of study based on the theoretical research on the traditional way of protection. In order to solve the problem of the lack of label management mechanism. and huge configure and maintenance workload, we propose a new ring protection scheme. It takes advantage of the characteristics of the ring network, makes the configuration of the working/protection channels based on the exit nodes making the numbers of ring channels and the ring nodes to a linear relationship and has the research and analysis in the aspects of the label distribution, management, configuration and maintenance workload and network change handling mechanism towards the G.8132standard scheme and the new ring protection scheme. The new ring protection scheme can save the limited resources of the label, and reduce configuration and maintenance workload, improving the efficiency of existing network protection switching.
