With the continuous development of computer and network technology, network communication has been more and more widely used in aerospace, transportation, electricity, industrial production and so on. In the event of communication failure in these fields, it will yields great losses to national economy, and even affects the security and stability of society. As a result, reliability is highly required. The basic reason leads to the failure of network communications is the failure of network equipment.With the purpose of eliminating the single point of failure caused by network communication interruption, parallel redundant network access system designed with a backup unit should be used. To guarantee the continiuous operation of network access system, it is needed that the failure unit could be repaired when the system is running with power on. However, electronics system can’t reach that goal without hot-swap. Moreover, in order to quantitatively analyze the reliability of the network access system, it’s needed to establish the reliability assessment mechanism for specific situations.In response to these needs, this thesis designs a dual redundant network access systems based on CPCI· bus and utilizes Markov chain to build a reliability model to analyze the instantaneous availability of the dual-redundant network access system. On this basis, the system availability is improved effectively through the rational design of a multi-port network access equipment. Besides, this thesis elaborates how to design a reliable device in signal integrity, grounded, anti-static, anti-vibration, heat and so on for a single network access equipment. With the research on network failure monitoring and switching, this thesis introduces a redundant link which overcomes the bus bandwith efficiency and single link failure problem. The function and performance testing shows that the system can switch between the main and backup network access equipment effectively in Linux driver, which guarantees the reliability of the dual redundant network access system.This thesis accomplishes the analysis and design of the reliability of the dual-redundant network access system in both theory and engineering. This will be a good help to the designers who want to design a network system with high reliability.
