With the popularization of IPv6technology, the use of IPv6multi-homing technology will also become a common phenomenon. At the same time, although the multi-homing is a good technology, but in actual operations, it also brings many problems, such as excessive expansion of Internet core routing table, ISP entrance filtering problem, transport layer sessions survival, etc. These problems need new solutions to solve. In order to solve these problmes, there are many solutions proposed in IETF and other research institutions. However, most of these proposals are for a specific problem, and did not take the whole IPv6multihoming background into consideration. Meanwhile, they are short of the work to verify the application of these new proposals in real IPv6networks. Therefore, an overall research of IPv6multihoming is needed and a logical analysis of it as well. Then we pick out the best solution for now for each problem, implement them and deploy them into the actual IPv6multi-homing test environment to verify the actual effect of them. Based on the result of verification work, the paper aims to sum up the potential room for improvement of these new solutions. The paper first describes the study of multihoming in IPv6networks, and summed up several typical scenarios IPv6multihoming. Then it carried out a detailed analysis of existing IPv6multihoming solutions, and summed up the new challenges faced by IPv6multihoming:address selection, next-hop selection, exit routing selection and session survival. The paper analyzes each challenge and correspoding solutions seperately, selecting the current optimal solution for each problem by comparing.Next, the paper designs and implements the selected solutions for address selection and next-hop selection, and depoly the implemented system into IPv6multi-homing environment to verify the application of it. This paper designs and implements address selection policy distribution system based on DHCPv6protocol to solve the address selection problem in IPv6multihoming environment. And the system to solve the next hop problem as well. The paper proposes a system architecture model and the outline of these two solutions, describes DHCPv6message interaction and message processing flow. And the paper describes the detailed design at length, including the internal data structures of the various modules and interface functions. Subsequently, the paper also provides a testing of DHCPv6message exchange, as well as a summary of the verification scheme of the system and the results.Through the analysis of the results of verification, the thesis gives out a summary of the existing IPv6multihoming challenges and corresponding solutions as well. Then it points out the shortcomings of these solutions by combining the actual validation results with the theoretical analysis. Furthermore, a further research direction of these solutions is given. Finally, both the advantages and the deficiencies of the main work of this paper are summarized, and the possible enhancements and future work are proposed.
