In order to meet the explosive growth of network bandwidth requirements, access network which is located in the terminal of network system and regarded as the bottleneck of data rate increase, is meeting a rapid development period. With the standardizing and applying of10G Passive Optical Network (10G-PON), the research and standardization of next generation PON version2(NG-PON2) technologies are extremely urgent. Because of the high spectral efficiency, multi-dimensional flexibility in allocation of resources and good adaptability and compatibility of the existing PON, Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Address Passive Optical Network (OFDMA-PON) is proposed as one of the most expected technical candidate solution to be applied in NG-PON2. This paper takes OFDMA-PON uplink transmission system as the research object, starts with the basic theoretical research and formula derivation and then makes an intensive study for the related key technologies and major problems. The main research contents and relevant achievements are shown as follows:(1) The paper has made an introduction of the application background and system advantages of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) in the PON and Focused on the basic principles and research status of OFDMA-PON.(2) On the basis of the fundamental principles and key technologies of OFDM technology, an implementation scheme of OFDMA-PON system has been proposed. After an in-depth study of the principles and different implementations of the system, a simulation platform of CO-OFDMA PON has been constructed and its correctness has also been verified.(3) After the study of OFDMA-PON system characteristics, an implementation scheme has been proposed to realize the colorless optical network unit (ONU) in OFDMA-PON uplink transmission system. The generation principle of Optical Beating Interference (OBI) in uplink transmission has been analyzed and an avoidance scheme has also been provided.(4) In accordance with the principle of the OFDM system, a20G CO-OFDMA-PON uplink system simulation platform that based on the simulation software has been constructed. The impacts of typical physical layer distortions like Chromatic Dispersion (CD), phase noise, optical fiber nonlinear effects and laser linewidth to the CO-OFDMA-PON system have been analyzed. And with the help of Simulation, the key system parameters and the performance of the algorithm have been studied.
