All-optical wavelength conversion technology is one of the key technologies that can solve the problem of the WDM system blocking rate, and will transfer the signal on the light wave to another one with a different wavelength. Because the wavelength of any subnet of the WDM system is unique, the WDM system can be arbitrarily extended. Because of the advantages of modulation format and completely transparent transfer rate, the SOA-FWM has been extensively studied by scholars in recent years, but at the same time, there is some certain lack of characteristic in this technology such as enough conversion efficiency, small the spontaneous emission noise and a proper optical signal-to-noise ratio of the output optical. In this thesis, we give a comprehensive measurement and evaluation of the SOA-FWM conversion performance, which is based on the three indicators below:conversion efficiency of the conversion light, the optical signal-to-noise ratio and the power penalty. The specific contents are as follows:◆We discuss the purpose and significance of all-optical wavelength conversion technology, and analyze the classification and research status for it. Next we explain the difference between all-optical wavelength conversion technologies based on various principles. After that the four-wave mixing effect of the semiconductor laser amplifier-based all-optical wavelength conversion technology is highlighting information.◆An explanation is given to show how Mach-Zehnder interferometer modulator works, and through the derivation formula we further validate the implementation process of the work. On this basis, we make the detailed study on the principle of modulation and demodulation process of the OOK、DPSK and DQPSK modulation format. Based on the simulatation of the spectrum and time-domain diagram of various modulation formats through MATLAB, we make a comparison between the simulatation and give a comphensive analysis in the end.◆While derivate the transport equation and carrier rate equation besides the nonlinear effects in SOA, we focus on discussion on the third-order nonlinear effects in SOA-FWM effects-based all-optical wavelength conversion technology. In the last we give a detailed introduction of the realization of all-optical wavelength conversion based on SOA-FWM effect technology.◆According to the basic principle of SOA-FWM, A10Gbit/s RZ-OOK All-optical wavelength converter stimulation system is built up based on four-wave mixing effect of semiconductor optical amplifier by OptiSystem software. With the aim to obtain higher conversion efficiency, higher optical signal-to-noise ratio and lower power penalty, this paper presented the best parameter and best working environment based on the discussion of the relationship of the3parameters-injection current to SOA, wavelength detuning,signal and pump power.◆According to the basic principle of SOA-FWM, A40Gbit/s RZ-DPSK All-optical wavelength converter stimulation system is built up based on four-wave mixing effect of semiconductor optical amplifier by OptiSystem software. With the aim to obtain higher conversion efficiency, higher optical signal-to-noise ratio and lower power penalty, this paper presented the best parameter and best working environment based on the discussion of the relationship of the3parameters-injection current to SOA, wavelength detuning,signal and pump power.
