The traditional mobility management techniques commonly used the centralized and hierarchical design. As the development of mobile Internet and popularization of mobile devices, existing mobility management issues become increasingly prominent,the problem of single point of failure become the main problem of the network development. Distributed mobility management (DMM) technology is proposed to solve these problems. The discussion of mobility management technology under3GPP Evolved Packet Systemis also increasingly enthusiastic. According to the flat network development trend in the future, the introduction of DMM technology will become far-reaching significance in the Evolved Packet System (EPS).This paper first described the basic research on mobility management technology status, including brief introduction of several widely used mobility management technology as well as several new distributed mobility management scheme, and focus on the analysis of Chan’s distributed mobility programs in DMM working group; Moreover, discuss and summarizerequired design points of deploying distributed mobility management technology under the EPS, as well as the problems of realization of the system.Based on Chan’s programs, a technology of deployment of DMM under EPS is proposed, as well as related distributed management framework and network architecture. This architecture can achieve the purpose of making the data plane distributed, simplifying the switching process, as well as solving mobility management triangular routing problem. The software prototype of DMM-EPS has been implementation on NS-3simulation platform. The function and performance of the DMM-EPS have also been tested in the simulation platform. The test results show that, The DMM-EPS systems can maintain the continuity of the mobile node’s communication, and process mobility management. With good switching property, it is possible for the DMM-EPS to provide a good user experience.
