Wireless channel between30MHz-108MHz in VHF (Very High Frequency) channel has been widely used by military vehicle radio. Electromagnetic wave in this channel which has good transmissions and diffraction performances are ideal for short-distance and long-distance vehicle radio communications. As communication techniques are rapidly developing and urgent need for improvements in symbol rates, traditional radios are in the face of modification and upgrading. Software wireless radio concept and modern digital process techniques can separate the radio into radio frequency module and baseband digital processing module, so that wireless radio structure is more flexible and more convenient to be upgraded. FPGA and other programmable hard devices and be used develop baseband module. System Generator which released by Xilinx corporation has powerful and distinctive FPGA develop capabilities. It’s able to help baseband algorithm developers implement their algorithm into FPGA hard devices. It can also transform designed modules into HDL files which can be added into other projects to be synthesized and used, meanwhile it could directly produce BIT files to be downloaded into FPGA.This article mainly focuses on baseband algorithm design of high data rate communication on VHF channel, fix-point algorithm analysis and System Generator design for baseband receiver. Channel equalizer module is added into baseband receiver algorithms to resist ISI introduced by GMSK modulation and multipath propagation channels. Both fix-point and float-point performance of the algorithm was considered by analyzing the algorithm and simulation. Then all these algorithms are implemented with System Generator tools on FPGA hard devices. All the designs was transformed into BIT files and downloaded into FPGA to test its correctness.Through implements on hard devices baseband receiver algorithms are verified meanwhile the hard devices resource analysis ensure the effectiveness of the algorithm. In the design process of System Generator proves capabilities the software to develop FPGA devices. System Generator can be used to develop both a single module and a whole system design.
