In recent years, with the great demand of multimedia services and high speed data transmission, the technology of OFDM research has been focused in the mobile communication field. Since OFDM can improve spectral efficiency obviously, enhance the data transfer rate and increase the system capacity and so on, it has been regarded as the key technologies in the fourth-generation mobile communication system. At the same time, synchronization plays an important role in each communication system. If the synchronization is not accurate, we cannot recover the transfer data reliably. In addition, OFDM is very sensitive to frequency offset, so the technology of synchronization is well concerned and becomes a particularly significant research topic.This thesis mainly introduces several different synchronization algorithms firstly, then analyzes and compares these synchronization algorithms deeply, and selects the algorithm which is suitable for OFDM communication system and hardware implementation finally. At the same time, this thesis realizes five synchronization modules which include frame synchronization、carrier synchronization、symbol synchronization、 sampling frequency synchronization and residual phase tracking in the OFDM communication system and introduces the function of each synchronization module in this system and the realization schemes in the hardware of these synchronization modules individually, besides, this thesis enumerates realization structure diagrams of each module and the modeling diagrams and simulation test charts in MATLAB/SIMULINK. In this thesis, we establish the baseband system of the OFDM in which we apply the five synchronization modules that have passed the tests well in MATLAB/SIMULINK. In the mean time, adding the DAC module and the ADC module of the RF end in the system, we take the timing simulation test of the whole system in Modelsim. Finally, we download the results to the Xilinx Virtex-5development board going to the board-level realization. In conclusion, in this thesis the communication system could run correctly and all kinds of performance parameters achieve the design requirements. We realize the whole OFDM baseband communication system eventually.
