Smart objects are micro computers with certain sensors as well as communication modules that can be embedded in engines, switches, machines and so on, and they are playing an unique role in home automation, smart cities and transportation and so on. There are usually five layers in their conmmunication protocol stack:physical layer, link layer, network layer, transport layer and application layer.In2003, IEEE802.15working group developed802.15.4standard that specified physical layer and media access layer for LoWPANs. Then ZigBee Alliance was founded by dozens of companies to maintain and publish the ZigBee standard which specified a suite of high level protols including network layer, transport layer and application layer protocols for LoWPANs. Some companies like Digi can offer an overall platform with hardware and software based on ZigBee for different applications. IETF also foresaw the prospect of smart objects and LoWPANs, so it assigned a group of6LoWPAN to develop protocols that would apply IP to those smart objects and connect them to the Internet. Meanwhile, another group named CoRE are developing application protocol CoAP for smart objects. This paper designed and implemented a6LoWPAN node service management system which was based on CoAP protocol and home gateway that supported OpenWRT technology. It could discovery6LoWPAN nodes in the network automatically, get resource services hosted by them and offer an overall view of those information. Besides, it could combine those basic resource services so as to offer an advanced service. And those basic data could be shared by web interfaces that were specially designed. Last but not the least, this system had some capabilities of gateway device management.System test showed that this system functioned well and made best use of the existing infrastructure.
