According to the salt panic happened in the middle of March in Mainland, the purposes of this thesis is to discuss the communication characteristics of the new media rumor, the path of social mobilization caused by rumor and reveal the fresh effects brought by the revolution of interpersonal communication. First of all, after studying the function of new media, we discover that with the constant development of MT, the fragmented communication becomes the main trend. People can switch their identities between transmitter and receiver at will. In another word, any information including rumors can be spread faster and broader. Furthermore, we use the knowledge of social psychology to analyze the relational network of new media, in order to find the connection between interpersonal strength and new media rumor’s speed and range. Meanwhile, the thesis connects salt panic with social environment and reaction speed of traditional media to observe and study how netizen, government and media debate in the public opinion environment built by new media. Then we can discover that new media rumor stimulates citizens’desire to find out the truth. The new media has the ability of self cleaning. Different views let people get closer to the common sense. Although the social mobilization caused by new media rumor has negative effects on social stability, from another point of view it also can form civil society. So how to treat rumor in new media age is the most important issue of new media rumor study.
