Reality TV show is a type of program which is a collection of television documentary, the soap opera and entertainment program. Authenticity is its most prominent characteristic, which is mainly reflected in two aspects. Firstly, the program’s participants are mostly ordinary people, which reveal themselves in the television cameras, rather than play a specific role according to a preset circumstances. Secondly, the program utilizes the multi-angle, all-round, all-weather recording mode. Participants’every act and every move were faithfully recorded by the camera lens placed at different positions.The reality show, more commonly known as "Reality TV" in foreign countries, is the direct transliteration of the movie "The Truman Show" in domestic TV industry. Reality and TV are a couple of perverse concepts. As a medium, television is a kind of tool both understanding and controlling the world. At the age of electronic media, the way people understand the world has moved from reading and travel into skimming through various TV channels. If the television is the extension of human vision, watching TV is an alternative way that human understand the world. Platon and Aristotle sorted for human senses and vision is ranked at the first place, because it is a kind of distant and objective sensory, far away from desire. In other words, the objectivity of the eyes and the authenticity of what we see mutually guarantee. Reality show tries to use all-round, all-weather shooting mode to ensure the objectivity of the lens. But even so, it can not hide selectivity behind the program. On one hand, a camera is a bounded frame which means that there are always something excluded outside the lens. On the other hand, the reality show with fixed length is the result of careful editing and rearrangement which means subjective selectivity. Different editing with the same material will convey a completely different meaning. Therefore, the reality as the reality show advertised is just "media reality"The producers of the program use real pictures recorded by the optic lens to edit a series of moving dramas. Fundamentally, reality show is a kind of cultural product which pursues high ratings. It is bound to cater to the needs of the audience and appeal to their eyes. Television, as a kind of vision machine, has changed people’s cultural needs, which liberates people from cudgel thinking into enjoying the rich visual feast. Entertainment and recreational become culture demand during spare time. The key to the success of reality TV show is that it caters to the needs of audience in different ways.
