With the rapid development of mobile communication technology and thegrowing popularity of mobile phones, the concept of mobile health is becoming a hotacademic topic and is widely concerned by the health care industry. Mobile healthmeans to providing health care services and information by mobile equipment andcommunication technology, and its biggest feature is to provide medical serviceanytime anywhere or pervasively (Pervasive Healthcare). As an effective servicetools to achieve real-time delivery, access and storage of healthcare information,mobile phones also provide a critical foundation for mobile technology to supportpublic medical services. However, it faces a number of challenges to realize healthservices based on mobile devices, such as the computing power and storage capacitylimitations,security and permission control problems of mobile device. In addition,mobile health applications and researches more concerned about hospitals andmedical institutions than those ordinary users and a large number of specialist clinics,Chinese medicine outpatient clinics or pharmacies, etc..To solve the above problems, we propose a cloud-based mobile health serviceplatform (MHealth). It deployes healthcare services to the cloud environment to lowerrequirements of terminal equipments and to acquire the computing power and scalablestorage capacity from multiple nodes. The platform services for small medical serviceagencies such as Chinese medicine clinics, private clinics, pharmacies, etc., and thevast majority of ordinary patients, to establish the bridge of communication betweenthe two. All these show the innovation of MHealth in technology and service model.After detailed research of the mobile health and its development, cloudcomputing and its key technologies, the application development model of AndroidOS, we advance the overall architecture of cloud-based mobile health service platform,and introduce it from three aspects which are cloud computing platform layer, themedical services layer and mobile application layer. Then, on the basis of Google AppEngine cloud service platform, we have a detailed analysis and design about theGAE-based mobile health service platform, including the overall architecture design,functional requirements analysis and design, data model analysis and design and so on.Finally, after the analysis of the development environment, we give a prototypeimplementation of the mobile medical service platform based on GAE, and describe it from the server-side and mobile client-side. The client implementation based on theAndroid mobile operating system, providing expert information, medical productsinformation, and other functions for ordinary users.
