With the rapid development of wireless communication technology, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have become one of the research hot spots, as it can be used in military, environmental monitor, health care monitor, home automation, etc. Cellular network, which is ubiquitous wireless communication network, could control and manage the WSNs, provide efficient data transmission and effective use the energy sources of WSNs.In mobility management in WSNs, the handover technology has become one of the research points. This article, which is based on the convergent scenario between WSNs and cellular network, aiming at frequent handover of multiple mobile sensors in WSN area, deeply researches on how to reduce the latency and power consumption of handover.Firstly, the development history, characteristics and application of WSNs will be introduced. Then the key technology of IEEE802.15.4MAC layer is introduced in detail, including superframe structure, channel access mechanism, channel scan mechanism and sensor access, paving the way for handover technology. In the next, we focus on conventional handover schemes of WSNs, which includes handover schemes based on IEEE802.15.4and based on proxy and analyze the basic idea and performances of these schemes. Through analysis of conventional schemes, we propose a WSN efficient handover scheme based on WSN-cellular networks convergence system, which sets edge nodes at the edge of PANs for mobile sensors used for edge early warning, queries the neighbor PAN channel information via cellular networks, so that multiple mobile sensors only scan the target channel to achieve the goal of efficient handover. At last, we compare the performances between handover scheme based on IEEE802.15.4and the proposed handover scheme with MATLAB. The simulation results show that the proposed handover scheme has the great advantages of latency and power consumption.
