In recent years, a new communication system named aerospace network becomes hot because of its unique features, and handover technology research will drive the develop-ment of the whole system. However, the work environment, topology, platform and vari-ous terminal types, fundamentally differ from the existing mobile communication systems, so the handover couldn't just take a copy of the technology being used, which is closely depended on system characteristics. Nevertheless, we can learn from the onboard tech-nology, and tailored to design the handover protocol for space information network.The handover protocol research for aerospace network includes 3 parts: handover measurement, handover decision, and handover execution. In the phase of handover mea-surement, the challenging problem is to design filtering algorithm by the aerospace chan-nel characteristics. In this paper, we design two level filter algorithms to smooth fading characteristics, and supported by event-triggered monitoring algorithm to reduce fading characteristics lead to unnecessary handover, and also effectively reducing the signaling load. Handover decision for aerospace network is also facing serious challenges, due to the high-speed link service and tens of seconds of laser link handover time, the design of handover decision algorithm is to choose the best target base station to reduce handover frequency of unwanted higher performance requirements, so we design a joint algorithm of signal strength and GPS information. Simulation shows that the algorithm of signal strength compared to traditional decision algorithm has better handover performance. The handover execution design of the aerospace network is to fully consider the characteristics of the network system, such as separation of the control links and service links, long delay, etc, to design a simple and reliable handover execution.We also implement the handover protocol of aerospace using software engineering methods, and use it in demonstration system. Through the actual system demonstration, feedback, validation, we can optimize existing algorithms. After a preliminary test, the current system is demonstrated available and effective.
