In the history of neoteric and modern Chinese press,"Scholars Commenting on Politics" is one of the most distinctive features of the times, playing a very important role for the development of neoteric and-modern Chinese press and even the whole society. In the mid-19th century, the Opium War destroyed the isolation dream of Qing Dynasty. While the times of deep national crisis, Chinese intellectuals inspired to run a newspaper in order to comment on politics and seek a way of self-improvement inspired by the conception and practice coming from western-countries. And "Scholars Commenting on Politics" was born in the right moment. From Wang Tao blazing a trail to Zhang Jiluan’s "Four noes principle" pushing,"Scholars Commenting on Politics" to a new heights, and then Chu Anping’s analysis about "Scholars Commenting on Politics" bring into a new way. They deepened the excellent tradition.In this paper, I take three represents:"Wang Tao","Zhang Jiluan","Chu Anping" as my examples to study the theory of "Scholars Commenting on Politics". This article altogether divides into five parts. In the foreword, I explain the background of this topic. In the first part, I study the internal and external causes of "Scholars Commenting on Politics" arising. And the second part is mainly about the characters of Scholars Commenting on Politics". In the third part, I analyse the three individuals’contribution to "Scholars commenting on politics". The last part is trying to finger out the significance of "Scholars Commenting on Politics" for the press in recent times.
