With the rapid increase of service such as VOD and the number of optical-access users, the demand on bandwidth of optical access network grows rapidly in recent years. Organization for standardization and telecom operators have been promoting research on next generation optical access network with high capacity and long reach.With feature of high capacity, long reach and large branching ratio, long reach WDM-TDM PON is considered as promising candidate of next generation optical access network. It improves aggregation of deployed TDM-PONs by consolidating the OLTs and COs, and also increase the capacity by adopting technology of WDM. Due to performance on system capacity and large number of users, network failure may cause severely loss. Thus protection switching on long reach WDM-TDM PON is urgent. Meanwhile, to make up the large loss on optical power caused by long reach and high branching ratios transmission, active optical amplifier may be deployed, which will damage passive feature of PON. Besides, in WDM systems, colorless ONUs can reduce cost on operation and management significantly, which makes it a research focus recently.This paper makes research on key technologies of long reach WDM-TDM PON, including protection switching, remotely pumped optical amplifier and colorless ONU.1. A Resilient protection mechanism for long reach WDM-TDM PON with dual-wavelength routing based on two-stage RN is proposed, which will guarantee service of high priority when failure on ODN between OLT and the second stage RN occurs. The proposed mechanism has high performance on robustness and realiability, which achieves the standard of carrier-class. Also bandwidth cost for each ONU recuded significantly. Simulation is carried on to prove the feasibility of mechanism proposed.2. We propsed a scheme of remotely pumped dual-amplifier for long reach WDM-TDM PON. Key technologies iucluding the choice of pump souce are investigated and experiment on35KM transmission system adopting proposed scheme is also developed. We get the conclusion that scheme proposed can supply dual-amplifier while keep passive feature of PON.3. WDM mechanism for WDM-TDM PON is investigated and main WDM-PON system solutions for colorless ONU are summarized. Suggeted by FSAN, we proposed solution of16×10Gbps WDM-PON and key technologies including colorless ONU, wavelength assignment and power budget are excogitated. Simulation is carried on and the results suggest that WDM-PON proposed be implementability capable.
