Represented by the high-definition video, IPTV, interactive games, the development of high-speed service is rapid. Therefore, the demand for access bandwidth will continue to increase. As the mainstream access technology, Passive optical network (PON) has been large-scale application. The demands of next-generation PON are high-bandwidth, multi-service, compatibility with existing networks. For these demands, the wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network (WDM PON) is considered to be an effective solution. This paper focuses on the functions of WDM layer WDM PON. The main contents of this paper include:1. Design the experiment system for the WDM layer solution of4×10Gb/s WDM PON.In this paper, the experiment for the WDM layer solution of4×10Gb/s WDM PON system has been demonstrated, which used colorless ONU based on wavelength tunable laser and remotely pumped EDFA to improve the transmission distance and coverage. System indicators:100GHz channel spacing,10Gb/s signal rate with single wavelength,45km transmission distance,4channels for up-line and down-line respectively,80Gb/s capacity for the whole system. Has been measured with packet loss rate of1E-8, the down-link receiver sensitivity is-23dBm, the up-link receiver sensitivity is-25.5dBm.2. Design and implement the colorless ONU based on wavelength tunable laser.In this paper, a colorless ONU based on wavelength tunable laser has been designed. The wavelength tunable laser has been used as the light source of ONU. Meanwhile, the external modulator-LiNbO3optical intensity modulator-has been used for signal modulation. Compared to other colorless ONU technologies, it can support of high-speed rate and long-distance transmission. In addition, we have designed the circuit board for the colorless ONU based on wavelength tunable laser. The board can control and monitor the optical module and tunable laser. It can guarantee signal integrity of10GHz high-speed signals. The modulation of upstream signals can be realized.3. Simulation analysis of transmission characteristics of duo-binary modulation format.In this paper, three methods (duo-binary modulation based on asymmetric delay, delay added, low-pass filter) of AM-PSK duo-binary modulation have been analyzed, and the duo-binary modulation based on low-pass filter with. Simple structure has been considered to be the most suitable for the WDM layer solution of4×10Gb/s WDM PON system. In this paper, we have established the modulation simulation model of the duo-binary modulation based on low-pass filter. Simulation results have shown that the signal bandwidth of the modulation format is9.6GHz, less than conventional NRZ bandwidth. Meanwhile, the transmission distance limited by the dispersive is160km.
