In northern China, wind erosion is one of the main reasons causing the soil erosion and the land degradation, which has seriously affected the sustainable development of the local socio-economic and natural environment. However, there is a important bottleneck in the wind erosion research and prevention, and in the soil and water conservation, which is the lagging tools and means of the monitoring. The goal of this study is developing a NTC thermistor-based wind speed sensor, and in combination with the advanced erosion measuring sensor, including erosion on acquisition, wind speed, rainfall, temperature and soil moisture content, aiming to provide a reliable multi-parameter monitoring systems for the wind erosion research in China. This paper detailedly describes the design principle, hardware circuit development and experimental calibration of the wind speed sensor. The wind sensor can accurately measure a range of wind speed,0m/s~5m/s, and the small-scale sensor probe can measure the wind speed of the entire cross-section with the automatic sand trap. Moreover, with other advanced wind measurement sensors, the wind erosion monitoring system uses the solar power and GPRS wireless communication technology, which will be able to overcome the problem of the data acquisition, data quantity and quality deficiencies by the fully automatic, continuous, real-time monitoring.This monitoring system will provide the reliable and detailed data for the wind erosion research, which must promote the research level of China’s soil and water conservation and other disciplines...
