With the advent of the information era, electric information technology becomes increasingly vital to human life. The degree of reliance on the computers is growing both for work and life. Vision is one of the most important human senses since we can explore and identify things by observing the color and the shape of them. Nowadays, with the development of science and technology, the computer can also possess intelligent vision and have discrimination ability. Now ARM, DSP and FPGA dominate embedded computer, those operation speed have far more than MHz, even achieve GHz. In addition, the embedded computer has many advantages such as low price, smart shape, rich-resource, high performance and low power consumption.This project aims to design an embedded system with low price, portable size and good performance by using the combination of ARM microprocessor and Windows CE operating system. This system equipped with500W CMOS camera, and with USB interface, audio, MIC, keyboard as well as others human-computer interaction device, meanwhile retaining WIFI and GPS expansion module interface. In later tests, this system has gone through the test for practical applications and reaches the anticipative design goal.This article firstly introduced the development of computer and image processing technology, especially analyzes the profiles and the future development direction of the combination of embedded computer and image processing technology. Then select the ARM architecture processor as the core to design the system by comparing the different processor architectures. Secondly, describe the hardware circuit design of the system with S3C6410as the core in detail. In addition, introduce features and the architecture of the Windows CE operating system. Finally, describe the500W pixel camera driver program design of the system in detail and make analyses for the image test results.
