Video storage technology is a key technology for NVS(network video surveillance system) and is one of the main factors to determine the performance and scale of the NVS. Traditional video storage solution stores the video data centrally in the third-party storage devices in file format, so it always suffers some problems which become a bottleneck in the development of the NVS, such as high-cost software and hardware, inefficient video management, poor video storage performance, etc. Therefore, developing video storage technology and improving video storage solutions is significant to the development of video surveillance industry. This thesis designed the storage subsystem software of NVS. The software runs on Linux platform, based on the iSCSI protocol, RAID technology, LVM technology and Ethernet technology, implements a dedicated storage area network for NVS in order to storage the video data centrally and reduce the system cost; Using multi-threaded and network programming technologies, designs and develops an efficient video management solution which includes functions such as storage resources assignment, video retrieval and playback, real-time video information updating, etc, so that enhances the system integration; Aiming at the drawbacks of the traditional file system storage solution, this thesis designed a dedicated video storage solution for NVS. Depending on the characteristics of the data storage, the solution provides a logical storage structure and corresponding data access method based on bare disk devices, which includes Group of Pictures(GOP) based data caching mechanism and uses B+tree for video segment index information management. Compared to the traditional file system, the solution increases video storage efficiency by43.6%and30.3%respectively on typical storage bitrate of512Kbps and1Mbps by the NVS, while reducing time-consuming of video retrieval down to25ms~35ms.
