In recent years, much counterfeit money is in circulation and robbery of soft moneyhappens sometimes. As the financial industry has developed rapidly, how to effectivelysupervise the circulation of soft money to ensure the safety of financial market becomes aburning issue. Since soft money is a significant ticket, its serial number is unique and canbe used in record and identification of soft money. When soft money passes through a cashregister and a serial number of the soft money is recorded automatically at the same time, the authenticity of the soft money can be determined according to the recorded serialnumber, thereby improving the efficiency and credibility of banks. To solve the above problems, an embedded system for identifying serial numbers ofsoft money based on a cash register is provided in this paper. A serial number of each ofthe soft money which passes through a cash register is recorded. If a customer drawscounterfeit money from a bank, the problem can be solved by a query using serial numbersof the counterfeit money. The system includes two parts: the acquisition and storage of serial number images ofsoft money, and the identification of serial numbers of soft money and storage ofidentification results. The former part is performed by a contact image sensor, anoperational amplifier (OP), an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and a core processor; thelatter part is performed by the core processor. At first, serial number images are acquiredby the contact image sensor under the control of the core processor. The acquired imagesare amplified by the OP and then are converted to digital signals by the ADC. The coreprocessor receives the digital signals and identifies serial numbers of soft money. At last, the identification results obtained by the core processor are stored in a designated position.Experiments have demonstrated that the system can acquire and identify serialnumber images continuously and the quality of the images is high, which can meet therequirement of identification of serial numbers of soft money. Furthermore, the serialnumbers can be correctly identified through the identification procedure in this paper. The experimental results indicate that the designed system has a good stability and reliabilityand it can correctly record serial numbers of soft money in a cash register.
