Enterprise-oriented Gateway is not only the basis of Enterprise office informatization,but also the key to make kinds of digital office services and applications to be possible.Traditional Enterprise-oriented Gateway equipments only support IPv4. However, with thedevelopment of the communication technology, developing new equipments that supportIPv6is imperative. Therefore, how to support IPv4-IPv6transition in Enterprise-orientedGateway has become an important and difficult issue that can not be ignored during theEnterprise-oriented Gateway R&D process.This paper focuses on the important and difficult issues in the IPv4-IPv6transitiontechnology, and fully discusses the IPv4/IPv6packet grouping treatment mechanism inEnterprise-oriented Gateway. Also it gives the design principles as well as implementationmethods of several key modules, including the IPv4protocol processing module, the IPv6protocol processing module, IPv6over IPv4tunneling module and NAT-PT module. Inaddition, the article also addresses the DHCP protocol in IPv4/IPv6environment, comparesthe similarities and differences, designs and develops the the DHCP protocol software forthe dual-stack gateway. The Enterprise-oriented Gateway designed based on the IPv4/IPv6in this paper has already passed the performance test. The test results not only show thehigh reliability of the design, but also prove that this design is of both an importantlyreferenced meaning and great practical value for solving the enterprise network from IPv4to IPv6smooth transition. Otherwise, the research about the Dual-stack technology, tunneltechnology, NAT-PT technology and the common protocol development under theDual-stack environment in this article, is in accordance with the requirements ofEnterprise-oriented Gateway in FiberHome Network Co., so some details about theimplementation would be improved in the further research.This paper consists of six chapters. Chapter1, as Introduction, introduces the currentsituation of Enterprise-oriented Gateway development, the main content of the application and research trends as well as innovation points. Chapter2introduces the systemarchitecture and software architecture of the Enterprise-oriented Gateway under Linux.Chapter3discusses the design principles and implementation methods of system packetprocessing module of Enterprise-oriented Gateway, including network interface packetprocessing module and IPv4/IPv6data packet processing module. Chapter4gives thedesign principles and implementation methods of the DHCP protocol software modules ina dual-stack environment. Chapter5shows the tests for IPv4/IPv6dual-stack,DHCPv4/DHCPv6function and packet forwarding performance using Enterprise-orientedgateway, analyzes the test results. Chapter6summarizes the research work and points outsome further work.
