Investigation The Properties Of Preset And Non-Preset Fiber Optic Connector

With the rapid development of FTTH, the length of the fiber splice becomes shorter. Thetraditional optical fiber connectors can not satisfy the practical applications. In the optical accessnetwork, whether connecting fibers to fibers, or fibers to terminals are dependent on thenon-fixed fiber optic connectors at present, which has been in the largest demand of opticalpassive components in FTTH. Optical fiber connectors can be divided into the preset fiberconnectors and the non-preset fiber connectors by whether there is a preset fiber in the ceramicferrule.In this paper, the properties of ESC250P and RSC250P Fiber optic connectors whichmade in Jiangsu UNIKIT Optical Technologies Co., Ltd are discussed. Firstly, the factors thatinfluence insertion loss and return loss were analysed through studying the properties of opticalfiber connectors. then the ways to reduce the losses were summarized. Secondly, with thephysical examination of preset fiber connectors and non-preset fiber connectors of two differentendface treatment, then the qualitative results of the surface quality were obtained, And theendface infulence to the two types of optical fiber connectors has been discussed. On the otherhand, insertion loss and return loss of preset fiber connectors and the non-preset fiberconnectors were both discussed and tested in this paper, then it has been compared theirconnection quality and analysed whether meeting the ITU standard.Lastly, the properties of bothfiber optic connectors is discussed with the consideration of the stabilization, the cost and easefor operation of them.The result of the paper is that, compared with the preset fiber connectors, non-preset fiberconnectors has more advantages with less insertion loss, better stability, more independent andless requirement to the environment. Even if the endface of ceramic ferrule has been polluted,wetted and misted, it can be cleaned directly. However, non-preset fiber connectors weredemanded the high quality fiber cutting face, which depended directly on the excellent fibercutting knife and skilled operators.
