By changing the laser echo waveform the target structure affects the laser radar ranging characteristics, but it is ignored generally. And the existing theoretical study of the characteristics is mostly about the laser echo waveform and noise characteristics. Therefore, this text are on the basis of typical target structure’s effects of laser echo waveform in theoretical and experimental research, discussing the target structure affects the laser radar ranging statistical properties.Due to in-depth information research, this text gave laser radar ranging principle、 domestic and foreign research status about the ranging characteristics and ranging process simulation method. It established a digital simulation model of the laser radar echo waveform. By numerical calculation it analyzed different incidence angle of planar target and surface structure parameters of the target on the effects of the laser echo waveform. The results showed that:increasing incidence angle of planar target, the laser echo waveform’s peak reduces, peak time of the echo delays and pulse width narrows; the laser echo waveform of cone target would have a smaller pea、more narrow pulse width and longer peak time, because of the cong angle lager; increasing the radius of spherical object just produced a longer peak time of the echo waveform; a smaller parabolic target opening would violently change the peak of the echo waveform. And it build a experiment device study the effects of the laser radar echo waveform about the planar、cone、sphere and parabolic target, that verified the correctness of the theoretical simulation’s results.In addition, this text combined the laser radar echo waveform simulation model and the team existing laser radar ranging simulation model. Then, it gave a numerical model which can simulation target structure influence the laser radar ranging characteristics. On this basis, by a large number of numerical simulations analyzed different surface structure parameters for the laser radar ranging characteristics affect. The results showed that:the lager of incidence angle for planar target is, the lower the ranging accuracy will be; the ranging accuracy was higher because of the cone angle became large; the different parameters of sphere target had slightly affect in the results and its ranging accuracy was nearly the same; the smaller the parabolic target opening would violently decrease the ranging accuracy.
