The key functions of precision tracking and instrumentation radar are detecting and tracking target with precisely measuring its distance, angle and velocity. The precision tracking and instrumentation radar is widely applied to space investigation, range instrumentation and other military applications.The dissertation studies the digital signal processing (DSP) and ranging technique based on an engineering design of practical radar, theoretical analysis and calculations, as well as simulations, of the typically technical specifications are operated.Moreover, engineering instance is discussed in this paper.First of all, the research background with the importance and neccesity of signal processing and ranging in precision tracking and instrumentation radar are introduced. The state of art of precision tracking and instrumentation radar and digital signal processing are described. Further more, it presents the engineering technique specifications of a typical DSP and ranging system based on the practical engineering. It introduces the composing and operating principle of the ranging system. especially details the practical methods of special engineering problems such as range ambiguity resolution, blind range avoidance, response/reflection converting, multi stations. Finally, conclusion and expectation have been prosecuted.
