Title plays a vital role in the news report. The selection of the news report by the readersis firstly realized through reading title.Basing on the former studies of the news titles in newspapers, this paper, takingPeninsula Morning News in Dalian as a sample, systematically sorts out the dialect use innews titles in Peninsula Morning News, sums up the rules of dialect use and, combining withthe analysis of the news title, finds out the existing problems and puts forward the relevantcountermeasures through the application of the relevant theories of dialectology, pragmaticsand social linguistics and by borrowing the theories and methods from other subjects, such asthe communication studies, sociology and culturology from the angle of linguistics.Accompanying with the standardization of the language use in news title, this thesis can be acertain reference to the making of the news title in news and reports in cities, and can play anauxiliary role in correctly dealing with the relation between the dialect and the mandarin andhas certain theoretical value in exploring into the complex relation among language, culture,psychology and regions.This thesis is divided into6parts:The1st part is mainly an introduction to the forerunners’ success in this research fieldfrom3aspects: the status quo of the study on news language, the news title and the dialect,and to the purpose and significance of this thesis, the research methods, the languagematerials and the status quo of the dialect distribution.The2nd part, taking forerunners’ research into consideration, mainly concerns about thestudy on the news title, the connatation interpretation and the classification principle of thenews title, the tendency towards spoken language and the application of the dialectal spokenlanguage in news title.The3rd part, basing on the corpus built up on the dialects and the spoken language in thenews titles in Peninsula Morning News, sums up the structures and the main types of thedialects and interprets the status quo of the use of the dialectal spoken language in news titlesof the newspapers in Dalian, and makes an detailed analysis of these dialectal vocabularyfrom the part of speech and the distribution of the dialects. And the judgment of the belongingof these dialectal words is made according to the reference books, such as Chinese DialectDictionary. The statistics of the quantity of the dialectal words with different parts of speech,and the statistics of the quantity of the dialectal words in different dialectal areas are madeout.The4th part draws a conclusion to and makes an analysis of the characteristics ofdialects use and its reason in newspaper titles in Dalian. By the statistics of the quantity ofdialectal words with various part of speeches, of the quantity of the dialectal words indifferent dialectal areas, of the layout of the title with the dialectal words, and of contentreflected by the dialectal words, the use characteristics of the dialectal words is made out through the synchronous comparison: the pronoun occupies the most part and, in the dialectarea, the South-east Mandarin and the Jiaodong-liaodong Mandarin comes first; in the content,the news reflecting the social life in Dalian plays a leading role. Taking the social linguisticsand the mass communication into consideration, the reason for the above-mentionedcharacteristics can be listed as the following: the development and communication of thelanguage, the influence of the dialects on the common language and the attraction of the newstitle to the readers.The5th part makes an analysis of the dialectal words selection rules in news titles atpresent, of the chaos of the word form and meaning and an incorrect use of the words; andalso an interpretation of the relevant countermeasure.The6th part is a conclusion to the whole thesis, pointing out the innovation and thedisadvantage in the thesis.
