As the important part of the inter-satellite ranging, the pseudo-code ranging and carrier ranging can reach centimetre and micron ranging accuracy respectively in this paper. Based on these two ranging systems, I have designed a Fiber-optic system and the Kalman filter for verifying and improving the accuracy of these two ranging systems.At present, we are still staying in ground validation and In-Orbit validation when measuring the accuracy of the high precision ranging system between two satallites in our country. These two methods are both complicated and high-cost, so it’s difficult to take them into practice for many institutes.This paper utilizes the principle of optical fiber communication, replacing the space with optical fiber. With the advantage of the fiber such as small size, low attenuation and strong anti-interference, we can measure the accuracy indoors conveniently. During the design process, I have attached great importance to the attenuation, dispersion, nonlinear effects, temperature characteristics of delay and typical noise in optical fiber. At last, with the measurement results in the pseudo-code ranging and carrier ranging system, it demonstrates the reliability of the fiber system.In addition, this paper has designed the Kalman filter to improve the accuracy of the ranging system. It’s an optimal estimation essentially, making the data for smallest estimated variance. With simulating the model of the ranging system on matlab, and the analysis of factors affecting the accuracy of Kalman filtering, then we select the optimal parameters of the Kalman filter. Finally, I have transplanted it to the DSP to apply to the ranging system. The ranging results demonstrate that the accuracy of pseudo-code ranging has been improved by several centimeters and the carrier ranging can be improved by several micrometers.
