Examination of halted CRH (China Railway High-speed) components is an important means to the CRH’s safety. Therefore, intelligent solutions for the CRH component examination are necessary in order to achieve the automation and standardization of the examining process, as well as to reduce the amount of undetected security risks. This paper first analyzed the current situation of solutions for halted CRH component examination as well as the development of image retrieval system. Considering demands of auxiliary information during CRH examining process, this paper, utilizing the technologies of database and image processing, provided an image retrieval sub-system and an Android smart device program. After collecting on-site photos of CRH components, smart device can upload photos, do some simple analysis and call background remote image retrieval service, to obtain the sample component’s information such as detailed specifications, history images and sample images of common security risks, which could assist the assessment of component’s health situation and the proactive detection of potential safety hazards. In this paper, an image retrieval system was constructed to meet the specific on-site information searching demands of CRH component examination, to provide comprehensive CRH component information to the work staff. This paper parallelized the mechanism of index searching, and introduced graded segment index and the concept of index snapshot file, redesigned the parallel index synchronization process, with which significantly reduced the processing time of image retrieval and improved the continuous availability of the service. The solution in this paper provided a new way to access detailed CRH information.
