The wireless ad hoc network is a self-organizing, self-adaptive and distributed network.Nodes in the network are functionally identical and no center coordinator is needed forcommunication, so it has strong survivability, flexible network structure and maneuverability. All these properties make ad hoc network to be more easily and rapidly deployed. Thus, wireless ad hoc network has a lot of applications in both civilian and military sectors. Forexample, this networking technology has been used in the U.S. military’s tactical Internet, which has been widely used in the Near-Term Digital Radio, Wireless Internet Controller andother communication systems of the U.S. military. After analyzing the structure of the U.S. military’s tactical Internet and wireless ad hocnetwork and jointly considering the characteristics of our army’s tactical communicationnetwork, this thesis introduces an ad hoc network based tactical communication network forour army, which enable distributed and independent tactical communication subnets tocommunicate each other. This thesis studies the proposed tactical communication networkfrom the following aspects: network structure, multi-antenna technology, channel sharing andchannel allocation, media access control, The performance of the proposed network such asthroughput, packet loss rate and time delay, has been investigated through the NS2simulationstudy. The simulation results show that the proposed network can meet the tacticalrequirements of our military in certain conditions. Finally, some import issues that have notbeen taken into account are discussed in the summary.
