Using computer modeling and visual simulation to simulate the plant, has become an important research topic in many fields such as computer graphics, agroforestry and ecology. Due to the complex structure of plants, especially in the modeling of large-scale natural scenes, how to model the scene by computers quickly and efficiently has become a research focus for plant modeling. In plant modeling, a key step for the plants simulation is to select an appropriate morphogenetic model. In order to simulate the requirements of plant morphology, no matter which kind of morphogenetic model, we need to artificially extract the parameters of the model based on the priori knowledge of the plants. Modeling of large-scale scenes needs a large number of rules parameters. Artificial method to extract the parameters of the rules is both time-consuming and laborious. It is particularly important to efficiently extract the rule parameters for modeling different type of plants.In order to rapidly simulate plant morphology, in this paper, we combine L-system with gene expression programming to obtain plant morphology. The main works are as follows:1. We propose a plant morphology simulation algorithm based on gene expression programming, combined with L-system modeling of plant morphology. And to simulate different types of plants, we propose the initial population restrictive design strategy and optimization selection strategy to reduce the search range and improve the efficiency of the algorithm.2. We propose the coarse-grained fitness function based on plant outline and the fine-grained fitness function based on plant internal branching structure. Besides, we integrate the two fitness function to comprehensively evaluate the plant morphology.3. This paper presents a method to simulate plant morphology changes with environmental factors. And plant morphology will vary depending on the environmental factors. We simulate the morphological changes of individual plant under the influence of unilateral light, and the distribution of minerals at the same time, the distribution of pant populations and individual morphological changes.4. Based on the evolutionary strategy, a plant morphology simulation system is designed and implemented. The system can not only simulate the specified target plant, but also simulate various forms of plants according to the user’s selection.
