As the enhanced solution of GSM/GPRS, EDGE has inherited all the advantages of GSM, such as great coverage area, large user scale, great conveniency and technical maturity. For higher system capacity and better service quality of voice and video multiple media services,3GPP has considered the next step evolution of EDGE, which is generally called EDGE Evolution.This thesis mainly focuses on the study of the solution of equalization, which could be used for equalizing Higher Order Modem as8PSK,16QAM and32QAM in the EDGE Evolution system. First of all, three kinds of High Order Modem technology and their own features are discussed in this thesis. Secondly, some existed solutions of equalization are briefly introduced, the Viterbi Equalization Algorithm based on Decision Feedback is discussed in the thesis. principle of the algorithm is studied, the "Global Feedback Mechanism" is compared to the "Local Feedback Mechanism" and the base flow of the algorithm involving "Local Feedback Mechanism" is introduced with taking8PSK as an example. Thirdly, an implementation for Viterbi Equalization Algorithm based on Decision Feedback is proposed in the thesis. it’s data flow of the implementation is introduced, the separation of software and hardware is discussed, software and hardware both are described detailly. At last the simulation results of algorithm and waveform of hardware are listed. After the analysis to the results, it is proved that this implementation could get a good performance.However there is still some defect existing in this implementation. Hopes that the defect could be cleared in the following study.
