In radar probing systems, a signal receiving and transmitting antenna array wasrequired not only good aerodynamic characteristics, but also better conformal.with itsunique pattern, end-fire antenna solve the radar “blind spot” problem. Compared toother antennas, the end-fire antenna with high gain and directional plays an importantrole in radar receiving and transmitting system. The end-fire antenna become a hotspotin the filed of antenna in civilian and military.First of all, the Yagi antenna, the most typical end-fire antenna, is brieflydescribed. In this paper, the Yagi antenna is simulated for the structure characteristicand properties. Analysis of the impact of the dipole on the antenna pattern is given inthis paper for the simulation of the end-fire antenna arrays.Then, based on the design principles of the Yagi antenna, most of novel end-fireantenna, such as microstrip quasi-Yagi antenna, Yagi antenna based on SIW, printedYagi antenna and hign gain Yagi antenna, are introduced in this paper. Microstripquasi-Yagi antenna is received a lot of attention due to its advantages, especially itslow profile and easy fabrication. The microstrip quasi-Yagi antenna described in thispaper improves the symmetry and further solved the antenna pattern problem of theprevious microstip antenna due to the asymmetric microstrip feed. Yagi antenna Basedon SIW is a novel end-fire antenna based on Substrate Integrated Waveguide, theantenna has advantage of waveguide slot antenna and microstrip slot antenna. A novelwideband printed Yagi antenna with about50%relative bandwidth is also introducedin the paper. it is the best candidate of the end-fire antenna array. a new pattern of highgain Yagi antenna will be introduced in the last of the second chapter, the gain of theantenna is about13.5dBi.Finally, a preliminary study of Yagi antenna array is made. Yagi antenna array isthe basic of the end-fire antenna arrays. The end-fire antenna array has the advantagesof high gain for the use of Yagi antenna. In this paper, a detail research of the spacebetween the units in the array is done by simulation. The simulation data for theimprovement of backlobe and gain of end-fire antenna array is given, and it willprovide a reference for the design of other end-fire antennas.
