Design And Implementation Of High Dynamic Range Image Generating And Tone Mapping Displaying System

In recent years, high dynamic range (HDR) imaging technology has been widelyused in the field of professional photography, film and game special lighting andshadow effects, image-based lighting, virtual reality and other computer graphics anddigital imaging field. However, the hardware system used in acquiring and displayingHDR images is quite expensive that it can’t be used in society more popularly. Thispaper design and implement the software which can merge HDRI from a set of lowdynamic range (LDR) images taken with conventional digital camera and display theHDRI on the general monitor via analyze some algorithms related with HDRI synthesisand display.Based on the function analysis of the system, a system consisting of recovering theresponse curve of digital camera, generating HDR images, HDR images displaying andreading and writing of common image and radiance map format is designed; the modulewhich recovering the response curve of digital camera (DC) is implemented viaanalysis of the response curve properties of DC and two algorithms recovering theresponse curve of DC; the module generating HDR image from a set of LDR images isimplemented via analysis of the HDR image generating algorithm; the module mappingHDR image to LDR monitor is implemented via analysis of tone mapping algorithmssuch as linear-based, adaptive logarithm based, histogram equalization (HE) based andcontrast-limited adaptive HE based algorithms; Finally, an interactive system integratingall modules above is implemented and testing is competed with actual images andrequirements are achieved.This system implementation avoids using expensive hardware system to generatingand displaying of HDR images. Although some factors such as image color correction,white balance etc. are not considered, the realization of the system has certain practicaland reference value to the popularity of HDR images in society.
