The scenarios in the real world are colorful and beautiful, and these scenarios have very high dynamic range and contrast. Scene dynamic range is defined as the ratio of the brightest pixel value and the darkest pixel value. The traditional display equipment such as CRT monitor can not truly reproduce realistic high dynamic range scene for their dynamic range is very limited. However, we are capable of simultaneously detecting different parts of a scene with high dynamic range thanks to the adaptation mechanism in Human visual system (HVS). With the rapid development of science and technology, digital image is becoming more and more important in our daily life. Especially with the emergence and development of High Dynamic Range Imaging technology, we can accurately record the information of real-world scenarios, and reproduce the real-world scenarios on traditional display devices. In recent years, high dynamic range image has been widely used in many fields, such as digital photography, film special effects, computer games, the human visual system, simulation, satellite remote sensing images, motion blur, interactive 3D applications and etc.Although high dynamic range images can be directly obtained with hardware, but the cost is very expensive. Besides, the traditional display device only can support displaying the low dynamic range images, so we encounter the challenges in the application. And the challenges are also the main research fields. The research filed of high dynamic range image is:the alignment technology of the multiple exposure images, the storage technology of the radiance map and the dynamic range image display technology. We can obtain the radiance map by merging the multiple exposure images, store the radiance map in the disk with storage technology and reproduce the real-world scenarios by high dynamic range displaying technology.In the paper, we briefly introduce the alignment technology of the multiple exposure images and the storage technology of the radiance map. We focus on the tone mapping technology which is the high dynamic range image displaying technology. After give the introduction of the current main tone mapping technology, we represent a new tone mapping method based on image segmentation. Besides, we also introduce a new video enhancement technology based on the tone mapping algorithm which can be widely used to enhance the video.
