The wireless sensor network(WSN) composed of large number of sensor nodesdistributed over a specific area which can react with the environment.Besides, thenetwork can be used for testing, sensing, collecting and processing information ofmonitored objects. The sensor nodes can cooperate with each other to perform sensingand date processing in ad-hoc manner. Therefore, WSN can be widely used in the areasof environment, military field, traffic, home and medical treatment, and now it developsvery fast and becomes more and more popular.Communication security is a basic concern of WSN. The nodes, with the intrinsiclimitation of the network, are often deployed in harsh, unattached,or even hostileenvironment, so the security of WSN is a priority issue. WSN is not only threatened bynormal wireless network problems such as information leakage, information tampering, replaying attach, denial of service, but also its special problems. When the nodes aretrapped by intruder, all information stored could be easily obtained and part of thewhole network might be easily controlled. Encryption technology is the basis and keymanagement is the key element of security management for Wireless Sensor Networks. Therefore, the key is the basic guarantee of secure communications, effective keymanagement system is essential for network security enhancement. This article first gives a brief description of the development of wireless sensornetworks, application context, system and structure, and analyses the security problemsthat wireless sensor networks are facing. This paper emphasizes on the issue of keymanagement. This paper give a detailed introduction to the evaluation of keymanagement under the environment of WSN and several key distribution schemes, including KDC-based key distribution scheme, key pre-distribution schemes based onrandom probability, key agreement scheme based on public key cryptography, andcluster-based key distribution scheme. Then this paper summarizes several classicscheme of key distribution, present the ideas behind them, and analyze the performanceof these schemes. Based on these, this paper brought out a cluster-based isomorphicwireless sensor network key management scheme based on chaos function and ellipticcurve, and gives a detailed description of the set-up and distribution of different keys.Simulation experiments and theoretical analysis verifies this design is a greatimprovement to the existing key management scheme in connectivity rate, anti-trapping,scalability and other aspects, and thus is more suitable for large-scale wireless sensor networks.
