Modern Chinese journalism has been significantly developed from its initial opening in the year1978to the official establishment as an independent sub-discipline in1997, realizing rapid and large achievements of constructing the discipline system. During this golden period, a large number of journalism textbooks have been published, which do not only strictly reflect the development of the journalism theory, but also provide scientific methods and define research objects. In fact, Kuhn pointed out that the textbook is an important symbol of the establishment of a paradigm, providing direct reading materials for spreading this paradigm. Generally, the contents presented in a textbook are a high-density and precise summary of research methods, basic concepts or technical details, which are very good studying materials for the beginners. Therefore, taking account into the important role of journalism textbooks in the development of the Chinese journalism, to systematically study the creation and publication process of the basic textbooks is a reasonable and important research sight for understanding the paradigms of our Chinese journalism. In this thesis, I selected six representative textbooks in the20years, for revisiting the development history of the Chinese journalism in this period. By collecting and comparing the frequency of the keywords, article titles, citations and notes, I gave a quantitative research for understanding the internal logic of investigated textbooks and the development history of fundamental journalism theory. My results showed that the development of the Chinese journalism in the period of1978-1999can be summarized to two key paradigms:the politic-oriented paradigm and science-oriented paradigm. Through discussing in detail the beginning, development and the mutual influence of these two journalism paradigms, I presented how the Chinese journalism changed from the brink of becoming a virtual discipline to the current situation of a unique discipline with a dual-core "politic-academic" system, inspiring the deep thought of the existing discipline crisis of the Chinese journalism.
